The Tambaram City Police seized 1,958 kg of banned gutka products and arrested four accused in two separate cases on Wednesday.
The Pallikaranai Police received information that banned gutkha and pan masala products were being smuggled in cars from neighbouring States into Tamil Nadu to be sold within the Tambaram City police limits.
Acting on this information, at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the Pallikaranai police team intercepted two suspected vehicles, a Maxi Truck and an auto, near the Velachery Main Road – Radial Road junction. Police teams conducted a thorough search and found 1,605 kg of banned gutkha and pan masala products.
The police seized the products and the vehicles used for transporting the contraband. The police arrested the three accused, who were identified as K. Ramanathan, 37, G. Nandhakumar, 38, and Shubham, 19.
On the same day, the Padappai police conducted a search operation at a residence in Kalaignar Nagar, Aathanancheri, Padappai. During the search, the police seized 353 kg of banned gutkha and pan masala products and arrested one J. Jayaprasanth, 32.
