The Tourism Department has directed the Hampi Development Authority officials and Vijayanagara Deputy Commissioner to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the ‘Clean and Green Hampi’ campaign.
The plan will involve the active participation of all stakeholders including officials, pourakarmikas, local people and tourists, said a release.
“The cleanliness of a heritage destination like Hampi cannot be the responsibility of government departments alone and requires the active participation of every tourist and member of the public visiting the site,” said the release.
Ram Prasath Manohar, Secretary, Tourism Department, said, “A comprehensive action plan covering cleanliness, plastic control and infrastructure maintenance will be prepared and implemented.”
As a part of the initiative, the Hampi World Heritage Area Management Authority (HWHAMA) was directed to initiate the tender process for appointing an agency that would draw up a comprehensive policy and implement overall cleanliness and maintenance of various heritage sites in Hampi.
Officials were also directed to initiate necessary steps towards banning the use of plastic in and around the world heritage site, apart from ensuring regular cleaning and maintenance of the toilet complex near the Virupaksha Temple, with special attention to the sanitation facilities used by tourists.
The Vijayanagara Deputy Commissioner was also directed to submit a proposal for the reconstruction of a new toilet complex under the Travellers Nooks project.
