Ariana Grande fans have sent an indie singer's music video viral after noticing its striking similarities to Petal.

Singer Frankie June released the single, Hollywood (2016), back in May, but the video has recently racked up thousands more views after fans claimed it must have inspired Ariana's video for Petal.

Both videos are staged in the Fifties and feature an aspiring performer who takes revenge on a Hollywood executive after being treated poorly in an audition.

The styling and framing are so similar that Frankie revealed she had been inundated with messages about it – prompting her to speak out about the commonalities.

In a TikTok video, she shared: 'So, everybody has been texting me this week asking, "Have you seen the new Ariana Grande petal music video? It's super similar to your Hollywood (2016) music video?"

'And so, I just wanted to weigh in. Yes, we both work in the same industry in the same town. But also, everyone has their references.'

Frankie continued: 'I feel like the more interesting question is: What if Ariana's video evolved having nothing to do with mine?

What is so wrong in Hollywood right now that me and Ariana both resonated with this story, where you literally see the talent in an office/audition type scenario jumping over the desk to exact revenge on this Hollywood exec archetype? That says a lot.

'So, Ariana, I'm so sorry that you resonated with that story in the same way that I did… Ariana, we're obviously on the same wavelength!'

While Frankie didn't seem perturbed by the similarities, her fans were quick to call on her to take action.

They penned in the comment section: 'You're being very professional. However this is brutally similar. I am commenting for your exposure, you deserve the credit';

'This is actually wild how similar they are though'; 'mama its a direct copy literally frame by frame. please get a lawyer'

'how is this not viral yet? the Hollywood Star was a dead giveaway that they copied your idea. I'm hoping this blows up.'

However one fan noted: ' Some of the shots are similar but the storylines are completely different.'

The Daily Mail has contacted Ariana's representatives for comment.

While Frankie didn't seem perturbed by the similarities, her fans called on her to take action

When Ariana released Petal this month, she alarmed fans with her worryingly thin frame in the video.

Yet ironically Petal was a social commentary on Ariana's complicated relationship with fame, with Ariana doubling down on this point when she announced a break from the limelight after 'endless, ongoing public scrutiny'.

Ariana, who is a self-confessed horror film fanatic, also paid homage to a number of film scenes and characters, notably those including women who have been driven to madness while trying to live up to impossible standards.

Earlier this month, her reps shared a statement saying she would be taking a 'much-deserved break' from public-facing duties after the tour ends.

The statement served as an announcement of her exit from the West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George, in which she was due to star this fall.

The pop sensation subsequently spoke out directly to fans during one of her Chicago concerts, saying she had planned to take a break 'quietly, a long time ago' and made the decision 'from a thoughtful and empowered place'.

Ariana is set to appear in the upcoming Meet The Parents movie Focker-In-Law opposite Ben Stiller and Robert DeNiro, which is scheduled for release in November.

However, it's unclear whether she will return to the spotlight to take part in promotional duties for the movie at that time.
