The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), in a post on X on Tuesday, said “democracy must not only be upheld but must also be seen to be upheld.”

Referring to the protests by students in New Delhi, the YSRCP said the demonstrations should be handled with responsibility and sensitivity. “The governments must listen to the genuine concerns of students and work towards meaningful solutions, while emphasising that peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic right,” the YSRCP said.

In the same breath, it appealed to everyone to exercise restraint and ensure that the protests remained peaceful.

The YSRP said that the NEET paper leak had shaken the confidence of students and parents in the examination system, and stressed the need for comprehensive reforms to improve transparency, security and accountability in the conduct of the examinations.

Stating that evidence had emerged regarding leaks, irregularities and malpractice in the conduct of DSC examinations as well in Andhra Pradesh, the YSRCP called for an impartial inquiry by an independent agency, instead of treating the issue as a political controversy.

The YSRCP stressed that there should be no compromise when it comes to the future of students. It added that bringing out the truth, addressing systemic flaws and taking strict action against those responsible was the duty of every democratic government.
