That is according to DW, citing Germany's Federal Ministry of the Interior, Ukrinform reports.

According to the report, Ukrainian men aged 23 to 60 who fled Russia's war against Ukraine and are not exempt from military service can no longer receive temporary protection in Germany.

"This restriction applies to men who arrived in Germany on or after July 31, 2026. This was the day a relevant provision of a Council of the EU decision entered into force. Under the provision, temporary protection is granted exclusively to those whose 'military service obligation in Ukraine has been fulfilled'," the report said.

Germany's Federal Ministry of the Interior stressed that Ukrainian men must provide proof that they left Ukraine legally or that they are exempt from military service.

At the same time, the new rules do not apply to Ukrainian men who were already in Germany before July 31, 2026, and have temporary protection.

Their temporary protection, like that of all other Ukrainian refugees in Germany, will automatically be extended until March 2028 under the Council of the EU decision.

As reported, the EU is changing the rules for granting temporary protection to Ukrainian men of military age, with the Council of the EU introducing new conditions for certain categories of applicants.
