October is going to be a busy month for A Court of Thorns and Roses fans. The highly anticipated sixth book in the series from Sarah J. Maas is coming out on the 27th, but we're also getting two board games based on the beloved romantasy novel in the weeks before.
A Court of Thorns and Roses - Fate & Favor, from the minds at Goliath Games, is a new strategy board game where 1-7 players fight for power in the fae realm of Prythian. It’s up for preorder at Target for $24.99, with a release date set for October 11th. An ACOTAR Edition of Monopoly, listed for $39.99, is also coming out on October 1.
ACOTAR - Fate & Favor Board Game Now Up for Preorder
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a romantasy series get the board game treatment. In fact, Rebecca Yarros' Empyrean series has inspired Fourth Wing versions of Monopoly and Priorities. Instead of being a themed version of an existing game, however, this specific ACOTAR board game is entirely its own thing.
A Court of Thorns and Roses - Fate & Favor is full of familiar places and faces from the book. You play as one of the High Lords or Ladies of the seven Courts of Prythian: Night, Day, Dawn, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring. You will forge alliances from this position, but loyalties can change as you ultimately compete for the most influence over the courts. It’s all about forging your own story and shaping your destiny through character abilities, court powers, event cards, and shifting fate tokens.
Created by genuine fans of the ACOTAR series, incredible detail has been poured into both the gameplay and artwork of Fate & Favor. It looks like tons of fun for fans of the books, but should also be enjoyable for those who haven’t had a chance to delve into this magical world. However, like the books, Fate & Favor is best-suited for ages 14+.
A special “Bookseller Variant” with exclusive packaging will be available at select bookstores in addition to the standard editions that's already up for preorder online. The contents of both editions will be the same.
More ACOTAR Preorders
As mentioned, ACOTAR is also getting a Monopoly Edition. Several, in fact. There's an Amazon-exclusive green variant, along with the classic red that matches the cover of the first book.
In both versions, the board highlights places from the series rather than your typical locations like Park Place and Boardwalk. It also features golden tokens with items from the book, including Feyre's Bow. Plus, the game offers manors and palaces over houses and hotels.
Preorders for the sixth and seventh A Court of Thorns and Roses books are also available. While neither book has a title yet, book six is out October 27, and book seven drops shortly after on January 12, 2027. Not much is known about the plot, either, but Maas claims the story is “big – really, really, really big."
