Relief after 9 blistering days as Hong Kong issues amber rainstorm warning

Observatory records temperatures between 23 and 29 degrees Celsius on Friday morning, significantly lower than the 33 degrees over past nine days

Temperatures have dropped in Hong Kong after a streak of nine very hot days, with the city’s weather forecaster issuing an amber rainstorm warning on Friday morning.

The Observatory recorded temperatures between 23 and 29 degrees Celsius (73 and 84 Fahrenheit) in various districts across the city as of 8.45am, significantly lower than the 33 degrees or higher over the past nine days.

The forecaster issued an amber rainstorm warning at 8.40am, the lowest tier in the city’s rainstorm warning system. It means heavy rain exceeding 30mm in an hour has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong.

There will be showers with sunny intervals over the weekend, with temperatures expected to range between 27 and 33 degrees.
