Katrina Johnson celebrates International Youth Day with underprivileged kids

Katrina Anne Johnson is still fulfilling her mission as a beauty queen even after relinquishing her Binibining Pilipinas crown to her successor Gwendoline Soriano last month.

The American-Filipino licensed pharmacist from Davao went to the DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) Walang Gutom Kitchen in Pasay City on July 23, her third visit to the facility, to mark International Youth Day.

“I volunteered in food prep and distribution, and donated 120 kilos of fresh fruits and vegetables to support their meal program. It was a delight because we were able to serve lunch to over 280 people that day!” she told Inquirer Entertainment in a mix of English and Filipino.

Johnson shared her visit on her social media account, where she also posted photos showing her mingling with the children at the facility.

“What you see in the photos is the ‘Tara, Basa!’ corner inside Walang Gutom Kitchen. It’s a dedicated space set up with learning materials and tutors to support the homeless children and students who visit the kitchen,” she said.

Johnson shared that once she was done with the food distribution, she moved to the reading nook to tutor the children in the facility.

“I believe that one of the greatest things we can do for our youth is to take them seriously.

Even before they become the leaders, innovators, and changemakers we know they can be, their ideas are worth investing in and their perspectives deserve a place in the conversation,” she wrote in her post.

The 2025 Bb. Pilipinas queen will represent the Philippines at the 64th Miss International pageant in Tokyo, Japan, in November, where she hopes to become the seventh Filipino woman to win the crown. /ra
