In particular, the minister reviewed the readiness of the region’s electric power infrastructure for winter operations. The region plans to commission an additional backup power transmission line.

Meeting participants discussed the operation of the power grid amid ongoing Russian attacks and possible backup power supply schemes for consumers. Special attention was paid to strengthening transformer protection and new technical solutions for protection against FPV drones.

“An important area is the development of distributed generation. The Sumy region Resilience Plan calls for the installation of 36.4 MW of additional capacity. To date, only 2.4 MW has been commissioned. However, construction work is ongoing at all planned sites. I have given instructions to accelerate these efforts,” Shmyhal said.

In addition, 30 solar power plants with a capacity of 2.5 MW have already been put into operation in the Sumy region. In total, 62 solar power plants with a combined capacity of 4.5 MW are planned to be connected this year.

Shmyhal also reported that, at the request of energy companies in the Sumy region, the Energy Support Fund has approved the purchase of equipment worth €54.9 million. Contracts worth €22.7 million have already been signed, and tenders for the purchase of equipment worth €9 million are currently underway.

As previously reported, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the necessary work in preparation for the new heating season has been completed in nearly 60% of residential buildings.
