The district administration has announced extensive arrangements for this year’s Onam celebrations across Kollam. The venues and official dates for the festivities were finalised during a District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) meeting chaired by Collector Anie Jula Thomas. The week-long celebrations will take place across multiple key locations in the district from August 25 to August 30.
The grand inauguration ceremony will be held on August 25 at 5 p.m. on Kollam Beach, where Minister for Culture and Tourism P.C. Vishnunadh will light the ceremonial lamp to mark the beginning of the cultural gala. The festivities will culminate in a valedictory session at Sambranikodi on August 29, which will be inaugurated by Minister for Women and Child Development, Labour, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Development Bindhu Krishna.
Along with the primary venues on Kollam Beach, Children’s Park, and Sambranikodi, cultural programmes will also be staged at Thirumullavaram, Elampalloor temple grounds, and Munroe Island. To ensure a diverse line-up of performances, a specialised committee will be constituted to screen applications and select performing artists and cultural troupes for the events
