The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) has issued a notification to all its senior regional managers, district managers, and depot managers to stop the sale of 11 liquor variants manufactured by Enrica Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. with immediate effect. The directive follows an FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) inspection that flagged the presence of natural identical and artificial flavouring substances in the products.

The variants include VSOP Exshaw Gold Brandy, Louis Vernant XO Blended Premium Brandy, McDowells VSOP Brandy, No.1 McDowells Fine Brandy, Mensclub Deluxe Brandy, Honey Bee Fine Brandy, Enrica VSOP Select Brandy, Enrica Platinum Reserve XO Brandy, Enrica Premium French Brandy, Veeran Special Brandy, Enrica Old Indie Classic Dark Rum. It is learnt that the Central Designated Officer of the FSSAI Southern Regional Office inspected the licensed premises of M/s Enrica Enterprises Private Limited.

Instructions have been issued to all premises operating under FL2 and FL3 licences to stop the sale of these brands immediately. Orders have also been issued to halt the transfer of the 11 brands manufactured by M/s Enrica Enterprises Private Limited from depots to retail vending shops with immediate effect.

A source in Tasmac said, “This is part of a nationwide inspection drive by the FSSAI.” When asked whether more liquor manufacturers would come under the FSSAI’s radar, the source said, “Could be. We need to wait and see.”
