Santisima, Oguni make weight ahead of Tokyo showdown
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Alex Santisima and former world champion Yukinori Oguni both made weight on Saturday, August 15, completing the final requirement for their 10-round super bantamweight showdown Sunday at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
Santisima of the Cebu-based ZIP Sanman Boxing Team came in at a trim 120.8 pounds, while Oguni tipped the scales at 121.9 pounds during the official weigh-in, both comfortably within the super bantamweight limit.
The weigh-in capped a disciplined final stretch of preparation for both fighters, who avoided any last-minute weight issues and are now cleared to proceed with their highly anticipated matchup.
Santisina is accompanied by his trainer, Michael Domingo who will be his cornerman for tomorrow’s fight.
For Santisima, the fight represents another major step in his development as one of Cebu’s rising boxing prospects.
The 26-year-old ZIP Sanman Boxing fighter enters the bout with a 13-2 record and seven knockouts and is riding a two-fight winning streak.
Santisima: Third fight in Japan
Santisima last fought in Japan on June 19, scoring a knockout victory over Richard Pumicpic in Nagoya. He is making his third appearance in Japan and will face his most accomplished opponent yet in Oguni.
Oguni, a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) super bantamweight champion, brings a significant experience advantage into Sunday’s bout.
The 37-year-old Japanese veteran held the IBF title from 2016 to 2017 and has won his last two fights, including a unanimous decision victory over former two-division world champion Marlon Tapales.
With both fighters successfully making weight, Santisima and Oguni can now turn their full attention to the ring, where their preparation and discipline will be tested when the opening bell rings Sunday.
