By the carabao hole: Rift over bike triggers shooting of farmer

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu—A 35-year-old farmer was injured after he was shot by his neighbor in Barangay Cantularoy, Sibonga town on Friday evening, Aug. 14, 2026, around 7:33 p.m.

The victim was identified as alias Raymond, a resident of Purok 1, Barangay Cantularoy of the said town.

Meanwhile, the suspect was identified as alias Eloy, 22, a resident of Barangay Duguan, also in Sibonga.

The Sibonga Municipal Police Station had received a report from a concerned citizen regarding a shooting incident.

Sudden shooting

According to the victim, he was pulling his carabao to a mud hole when the suspect suddenly appeared and shot him using an unknown caliber of firearm.

The victim was hit on his left arm and he was rushed to Carcar District Hospital for medical treatment.

Based on their initial investigation, the suspect allegedly got mad with the victim, who had threatened to formally complain against the suspect’s father in the barangay hall.

The suspect’s father had borrowed the victim’s motorcycle without returning it.

Currently, the police are still conducting a hot pursuit operation against the suspect.
