Working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao has stated that the extent of corruption and irregularities in Telangana is now being exposed not only by the opposition parties, but by the ruling party legislators themselves.

Speaking to media persons after participating in the Independence Day celebrations in the party office here on Saturday, he said he would fully agree with the remarks of Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, and the fact that a public representative from the ruling party was compelled to make allegations of corruption against the government and its leadership itself, demonstrated how badly governance had deteriorated in Telangana.

For long, the Congress government had been dismissing the allegations of corruption and irregularities made by Opposition parties as mere political criticism. However, they were now being made by MLAs belonging to the ruling party. It was not an ordinary development that a ruling party MLA was publicly raising allegations of corruption against the government, and it reflected the seriousness of the situation in the State, he said.

Alleging that Telangana was turned into an ATM for the AICC, Mr. Rao alleged that the Telangana Congress had been funding AICC and its leadership. He recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visits to Telangana, had also alleged that the State had been turned into an ATM for the AICC.

Questioning the Centre’s silence on the large-scale corruption in Telangana, Mr. Rao said mere making allegations of corruption during elections or on political platforms would serve no purpose. If there was substance in the allegations, the Central investigating agencies should conduct an impartial investigation and bring out the facts, he demanded.

Referring to the searches conducted by the Enforcement Directorate in the past against Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, the BRS leader said there was no clarity about what action had subsequently been taken in the matter or what stage the investigation had reached. He demanded that Central investigative agencies function honestly and transparently rather than for political purposes.

Mr. Rama Rao further alleged that the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s focus was on how to secure lands for his siblings, relatives and followers. Instead of merely claiming that he was working for 18 hours a day for the State, it must reflect in the benefits reaching different sections of people, and not discontinuing the existing welfare schemes.

Meanwhile, responding to the developments concerning NALSAR students, he said when young people feel that their dignity or self-respect had been attacked in a democracy, they would naturally raise their voice and resist. He said he would support the NALSAR students for standing courageously for their rights and dignity.
