Slay the Spire 2 has been moving at a solid pace since it launched into early access back in March, but back in May developer Mega Crit shared that updates would be switching to once every two weeks as opposed to the previously promised weekly updates. Now, as outlined in the game's August Neowsletter, Mega Crit say they'll be slowing down once again, though not necessarily forever.

"Our bi-weekly update cadence on the beta branch has allowed us to cross quite a few features and content off of our to-do list," Mega Crit explain in a Steam blog post. "It also allows us to be more dynamic and experimental when introducing changes. However, when doling out content piecemeal like that, it's harder to dedicate time to developing the bigger, more impactful content that so many players are most eager for.

"In order to bring you this much-anticipated content, we will be shifting our updates to be a bit further apart, at least for a while. We can't guarantee the exact pace or if said pace will be regular, but we'll continue to keep you updated, as always!" The post also outlined a few bits currently being worked on, which includes experimental game modes (which sounds like the modes they spoke of back in April), an alternate Act 2, and a new character. They couldn't show off much about any of this, but they did show a bandage-wrapped foot. Titillating!

The Q&A section of the newsletter shared a few minor details you can expect, or I suppose not expect in some cases, in the future. For one, there are no plans to go up to Ascension 20, with Ascension 10 being "close to the highest difficulty we'll have for the game. Grinding out Ascension 20 would be quite a chore as there are more characters in the sequel. As more content makes it into the game, there will be a clearer picture on how we want to tackle challenging difficulty though." You also shouldn't expect enchantments to be stackable in future, as the team wants the focus to be on deckbuilding over cardbuilding. And before you ask, no, Mega Crit won't be giving Defect a gun that resembles real life guns either.
