Former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has lost his polling unit in Saturday’s governorship election in the state, with the Accord Party emerging victorious.

Mr Oyinlola recently shifted his support from Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking second term in office on the Accord Party’s platform, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji

Mr Oyinlola, a retired military general, voted at Polling Unit 003, Ward 01, Court Hall 1, Okuku, in the Odo-Otin Local Government Area in Saturday’s governorship election.

At the end of ballot counting at the polling unit on Saturday, the Accord Party candidate and incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, polled 125 votes, while APC scored 84 votes.

Mr Oyinlola became governor of Osun State in May 2003 and was re-elected in 2007 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

On 26 November 2010, the Court of Appeal, which then had the final say governorship election cases, sacked him from office, truncating his second term as governor to usher in former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

That ruling set off the off-cycle elections in Osun State.
