Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has scored the highest number of votes in Osogbo Local Government Area in Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.

Mr Adeleke, who is seeking re-election, polled 36,480 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 30,474 votes.

The returning officer for the local government, Ikenna Odoh, announced the result at about 12:10 a.m. on Sunday after collating the results in the presence of party agents and observers.

The local government has 167,704 registered voters, of whom 70,840 were accredited. A total of 69,307 valid votes were recorded.

Osogbo Local Government has 15 registration areas.

Osogbo has historically been one of the APC’s strongholds in the state, alongside Olorunda Local Government, particularly during the administration of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The local government has also historically recorded some of the highest voter numbers in the state, reflecting its large urban population, concentration of civil servants and significance as the state capital.

With the declaration, the result will now be moved to the INEC state office in Abere, Osogbo, for final collation.
