PVL: Rookie Jonna Perdido credits vets for guidance in Farm Fresh win

MANILA, Philippines — Even before her rookie season officially starts, Jonna Perdido has learned a lot from Farm Fresh veterans and coach Koji Tsuzurabara during their campaign in the PVL On Tour.

“The transition was pretty easy because the veterans and coach Koji have been guiding me. I just focus on doing my job,” said Perdido in Filipino.

Perdido provided quality minutes off the bench as Farm Fresh swept Nxled, 25-23, 25-13, 25-22, for its first preseason win on Saturday at Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

The former University of Santo Tomas Tigress has been getting a lot of advice from her seasoned teammates, especially reigning Season MVP Trisha Tubu, who is playing a different position as an opposite hitter but has been guiding the rookie outside spiker as a fellow lefty.

“I really look up to Ate Tubs. Even though we don’t play the same position, I learn a lot from her during training, especially her check balls and power tips,” said Perdido.

“I think it’s about staying aggressive even when we’re down on the scoreboard. We fight for every point. That’s what the veterans always tell me—to just show what I can do and help the team in any way I can,” she added.

Perdido, Farm Fresh’s first-round pick, also played for the Strong Group Athletics team, which finished second in the Formosa Invitational Tournament in Chinese Taipei.

With one more preseason game in Victorias next week, Perdido is eager to continue her growth, as she seeks to contribute to Farm Fresh in the upcoming Invitational Conference beginning August 31.
