Cebu City: Man faces frustrated murder raps after hacking woman, her son
CEBU CITY, Philippines — A 22-year-old man is facing a possible frustrated murder charge after allegedly hacking a woman and her 13-year-old son inside their home in Barangay Paril, Cebu City late Sunday evening, August 16.
Police confirmed that the victims were the wife and son of the man who had asked the suspect to leave the disco.
The suspect remains detained at the Adlaon Police Station as of Monday, August 17, while police prepare the appropriate charges.
Wife, son of man who removed suspect from disco
In a Monday interview, Police Captain Leonyl Iren, chief of Adlaon Police Station, said the suspect was allegedly under the influence of alcohol while inside the disco when he got into a fistfight and was subsequently asked to leave by people at the gathering.
The person who had the suspect removed from the disco was the husband and father of the two victims, Iren confirmed.
After leaving the disco, the suspect allegedly went to the victims’ home in Barangay Paril.
According to the police report, the victims were inside their house at around 10:21 p.m. when the suspect allegedly entered without provocation and attacked them using a bolo.
The 13-year-old boy sustained a hack wound to the face, while his mother suffered hack wounds to her shoulder and arm.
Both victims sustained serious injuries and were immediately brought to a hospital in Cebu City for medical treatment.
Suspect arrested after attack
The victims positively identified the suspect, prompting responding authorities to launch a hot-pursuit operation.
Police said the suspect, an unemployed resident of Sitio Upper, Barangay Paril, was arrested at around 12:05 a.m. on Monday, August 17.
Iren said officers caught up with the suspect within the vicinity of the incident, noting that police personnel were already nearby because of the disco.
Residents and barangay public safety officers sought assistance after the attack, allowing responding officers to locate and arrest the suspect in another sitio a short distance from the scene.
