The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet against retired judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh in a case pertaining to the death of his wife Twisha Sharma, who was allegedly harassed for dowry, NDTV reported on Monday.

In the 636-page document, the central agency has invoked sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to dowry death, matrimonial cruelty, abetment to suicide and acts done with common criminal intention, as well as provisions of the Dowry Prevention Act.

Sharma, a 33-year-old model-turned-actor from Noida, was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, five months after her wedding.

Her husband’s family claimed that she had died by suicide. However, her family alleged that she was harassed for dowry and murdered.

Samarth Singh was arrested on May 22 from Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur city and brought to Bhopal. Giribala Singh was arrested on May 28 after the High Court quashed her anticipatory bail.

The former judge and her son are in judicial custody.

According to the first information report, Samarth Singh had on May 12 taken Sharma to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Bhopal, where he claimed that she had hung herself at home, PTI reported.

However, a doctor at the institute told the police that Sharma was brought dead, after which a medico-legal case was registered.
