The Watrap police have arrested three persons, including two brothers, in connection with the murder of a 38-year-old man from Kottaiyur on Thursday (August 13, 2026).

The police identified the accused as V. Periyasamy (21), V. Alaguraja (25), and G. Karuppasamy (18).

The police said the man had confronted Periyasamy for reportedly stalking his daughter a few months ago. Irked by this, on Thursday night, the three men attacked him with knives when he was near his house.

His son rushed to rescue him, but the armed men assaulted him as well.

Later, his mother and his daughter attempted to rescue him, but they too were attacked and abused.

The Watrap police have booked the accused for murder, attempt to murder, wrongful confinement, assault, using abusive language, criminal intimidation, and under the provision of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.
