Ariana Grande’s Petal opens at No. 1 on every Billboard chart where it debuts this week. The pop superstar’s eighth solo studio album becomes her seventh to lead the Billboard 200, the closely-watched ranking of the most-consumed albums and EPs in the United States.
Grande is such a beloved musical star these days that she is all but guaranteed to launch new albums at No. 1, though that was not always the case. Petal arrives with a very healthy sales sum – one that can easily outpace its closest competition many times over.
Ariana Grande Debuts at No. 1 on Four Billboard Charts
Petal debuts on four Billboard rankings this week, and it leads every one of them. Grande’s latest studio LP arrives at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Top Album Sales, Vinyl Albums and Top Streaming Albums charts.
Ariana Grande Outperforms Morgan Wallen Three Times Over
Grande scores her seventh No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with Petal, which stands out as far and away the bestselling release in the nation. The album replaces Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem, which returned to the summit last frame during an especially quiet period.
This time around, Petal easily pushes the country project down to second place. Luminate reports that in its opening week, Grande’s album moved just over 295,200 equivalent units. That figure comprises both actual sales and equivalent units generated by millions of plays on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and others.
I’m the Problem dips one rung with 74,800 equivalent units shifted. Grande outpaces Wallen on the Billboard 200 more than three times over.
Ariana Grande Sells More Than 10 Times the No. 2 Album
It is on the Top Album Sales chart where Grande really shines. Petal kicks off its run at No. 1 with approximately 168,200 copies sold. That figure includes digital downloads, as well as purchases on CD and vinyl.
No other project sold anywhere near as well. In fact, Petal moved more than 10 times as many copies as the No. 2 set, GreenGreen by K-pop outfit Cortis, which performs well yet again with approximately 15,700 sales. Grande outsold her closest competition more than 10 times over.
Ariana Grande Outsells the Rest of the Top 10 Combined
Grande even manages to outsell the rest of the Top Album Sales chart’s top 10 combined. Only two projects debut inside the region this week, with Shaboozey’s The Outlawed Cherie Lee and Other Western Tales joining Petal and launching at No. 4. Fleetwood Mac also brings its Greatest Hits compilation back into the tier, and the set reaches a new high as it returns at No. 10.
Added together, the other nine albums inside the top 10 on the Top Album Sales tally sold far fewer copies than Petal in its first frame. Grande clears the combined competition with plenty of room to spare, and her opening sum is large enough that she may have outsold several additional projects – perhaps the next 10 as well – that sit just beneath the highest tier.
Ariana Grande Scores Her Eighth Sales No. 1
Grande has collected the most champions on the Top Album Sales chart among the rankings she rules this week. Petal becomes her eighth No. 1 on the purchase-focused ranking – one more than she has accumulated on the Billboard 200.
On the Vinyl Albums chart, five of Grande’s nine top 10 bestsellers have risen all the way to the summit. Petal also doubles the singer’s career count of leaders on the Top Streaming Albums ranking. The new full-length becomes only Grande’s second No. 1 on the streaming-focused roster.
