The Coimbatore Corporation plans to increase the number of stray dogs sterilised each month from 1,400 to 2,000 as part of its Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme.
Of the estimated 1,11,074 dogs in the Corporation limits, around 42,300 have undergone sterilisation so far, leaving 68,774 to be covered.
Four NGOs are working with the Corporation to carry out the surgeries. About 1,400 dogs are sterilised every month, and the Corporation aims to raise this to 2,000 this month.
