An elderly couple allegedly ended their lives at their residence on Wednesday (July 22) night in Manjunath Nagar, Bengaluru. The police suspect that mounting medical expenses may have driven them to take the extreme step.

The deceased have been identified as Eshwar Achari, 73, and his wife Gowri, 66.

According to the police, Gowri had been bedridden after losing mobility due to a prolonged illness. The couple’s two daughters had reportedly been bearing the cost of her treatment. However, Eshwar and Gowri were reportedly distressed over the financial burden their medical expenses had placed on their children.

The incident came to light when one of their daughters repeatedly called them the following morning but received no response. She later visited the house and found both of them dead.

The Basaveshwaranagar police visited the spot, conducted an inspection, and have registered a case. Further investigation is under way.
