IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Monday said the Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City development will be completed by March 2028 and the Telangana government is eyeing around investments worth ₹15,000 crore.
Poised to be a major industrial and manufacturing hub in Telangana, the Smart City is to be developed over 3,245 acres and once fully operational generate direct and indirect employment for nearly two lakh people, the Minister said participating virtually in a meeting of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT).
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal chaired the meeting held in Delhi and in which Chief Ministers and Industries Ministers of various States participated in the video conference, Mr. Sridhar Babu’s office said in a release on Monday.
The Telangana government has 51% stake in the project, by way of land, while the Central government is providing financial support for the development of the industrial corridor. The Minister said the development plan for the Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City has already been submitted to the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) and works are progressing under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model. All infrastructure works will be completed within the committed timelines, he said.
Tendering process for water supply infrastructure has been completed, while works related to power supply will also be completed within the stipulated timeframe, he said.
Mr. Sridhar Babu urged Mr. Piyush Goyal to allocate four of the 100 Plug-and-Play Industrial Parks announced under the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana (BHAVYA) to Telangana. The allocation would further strengthen Telangana’s industrial ecosystem and help accelerate investments, manufacturing activity and employment generation in the State, he said, seeking enhanced support for Telangana’s industrial expansion.
T-Works for Delhi discussed
In another release, the Minister’s office said Mr. Sridhar Babu welcomed Delhi government Industries Minister Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who is on an official visit to Hyderabad. During their meeting, Mr. Sirsa sought support and cooperation to establish an institution similar to T-Works in Delhi.
