You’re bashing through ore on level 59 of the mines, you’ve happened upon a shelf of intriguing new products at the general store, or you’ve just worked up the nerve to talk to Valen. That’s always when you notice the sky purpling and the 8 o’clock bell ringing. Another day in Fields of Mistria, the cozy farming sim from NPC Studio, has come to an end. There’s still so much to do — which is a good problem to have. But it does lead to the never-ending “just one more day” spiral. And sometimes, to get a handle on your foraging or fishing tasks, it feels like it’d be better to have another hour in your current day, instead of the opportunity to go to sleep and try again.
Fields of Mistria’s 1.0 is out and, due to the update’s easily-findable files, modding is more accessible than in past versions of the game. As a result, there is a lineup of vetted ways to make the most of your time in Mistria.
Advanced Time Controls, by modder annanomoly, gives you a dial you can tweak to set your day’s pace. Fields of Mistria has built-in day-length options, but they’re limited. (The “Longest” option extends your day to fifteen minutes, instead of the usual twelve and a half.) With this mod installed, you can up your day’s speed to a blistering 500%, slow it to a half-speed crawl, or set time to 0% to freeze it outright. Even better, you can do this all from an intuitive in-game menu, just a tab away from an outfit change. Time of Mistria, by ArchieOwO, offers a similar fix, but has been updated less recently — so it may be worth a try, but be ready to uninstall and reinstall it if it acts up.
While they don’t stop time, two other popular mods solve adjacent “where on earth did my day go” problems. Save Anywhere, also by annanomoly, lets you quicksave anywhere you want by pressing the Home button instead of having to trek back to your farmhouse to save your progress. Access Storage Anywhere, by modder BigManViggo, lets you skip the hike back to your storage chests, too, instead granting you the ability to organize and access your storage chests, as the name suggests, from anywhere on Mistria’s map. (Being able to empty my pockets before a spontaneous trip into the mines is going to save me, personally, a significant amount of both time and stress.)
For all of these, you’ll need to download the Mods of Mistria Installer (or MOMI). Set that up, make sure you get into a rhythm of backing up your save before testing any mod, and then see which of these time-saving mods suits your playstyle.
After slowing or speeding up time to your heart’s content, Fields of Mistria becomes even cozier, and you can spend more time enjoying in-game activities from petting every animal on your farm in one sitting (important!) to finding the perfect gift for whoever you’re dating. Or, of course, exploring other Fields of Mistria mods. I’ve got my eye on this Flowy Hair mod by sunberns to give my sprite the hairdo of her dreams…and this Just Janes QoL Options pack by Jane1986 to up her movement speed just a little bit.
But those are just a few quality of life improvements. There are more important things to worry about. Somewhere, a Mistria villager is waiting for their favorite gift! At least now you have time to frantically research what it is.
Fields of Mistria is available to play on PC via Steam, with full Steam Deck support.
