And that speculation gained another layer on Thursday, when the Yankees made another roster move involving the 24-year-old outfielder, moving him back down to their Triple-A affiliate just a few hours after calling him up to the big-league roster, according to the official transaction log.

Jones' latest demotion follows a very brief and unheralded opportunity to establish himself at the major league level, suggesting he might be falling out of favor in the Bronx.
“Spencer Jones made his big-league debut to great fanfare on May 8 in Milwaukee, having been called up from the minors when Jasson Dominguez landed on the injured list,” Erik Boland reported for Newsday. “Jones, considered a can't-miss Yankees prospect, much in the way Dominguez was at one point, was recalled to the majors for Wednesday's doubleheader against the (Pittsburgh) Pirates to significantly less fanfare. And this time around, his stay in the big leagues, his third stint this season, was assured to be a brief one.”
Indeed, the stint lasted less than 24 hours.
Through 31 major league games this season, Jones is batting just .224 with two home runs and a .669 OPS. His strikeout rate has remained a significant obstacle, with 35 strikeouts in only 76 at-bats.
For now, the Yankees appear focused on giving Jones additional at-bats in Triple-A while simultaneously evaluating their deadline options.
