PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – Heavy rains brought by a localized thunderstorm triggered flooding in several barangays in Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur Monday evening, forcing residents to evacuate as the river overflowed into low-lying communities. Jay Immanuel Locson, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head, said the most affected areas were barangays Gawil, Poblacion, and Boyugan East. The Gawil River overflowed at around 7 p.m., inundating nearby tributaries and immediately affecting households in the aforementioned villages.
