Katie Piper has stated she 'overall doesn't believe in the incarceration of women', instead believing in 'rehabilitation and support'.
The model and activist, 42, has hosted two prison documentaries for Channel 4, including Katie Piper: Locked Up in Louisiana in 2025 and Katie Piper's Jailhouse Mums in 2023, and has since been vocal about her views on women in jail.
Speaking to The Times, Katie boldly insisted women should not be put in jail before adding: 'I felt close to a lot of the women lifers in prison. I really believe that all of us are one bad decision or one bad day away from that happening to us'.
She insisted that rehabilitation is a more viable answer for women than time in jail, especially those who have been victims of domestic violence and who acted in self defence, saying: 'Overall, I don't believe in the incarceration of women...
'I believe in rehabilitation in other programmes to support and empower women to get them well again mentally and physically....

'Often women are defending themselves in domestic violence situations, they have no previous criminal record and in a moment of self-defence they commit murder or serious assault.'
Last year, when Katie attended New Orleans Parish Prison for her documentary, she revealed inmates 'took the p**s' out of her facial scars.
In March 2008, Katie was left with permanent damage when she was the victim of a brutal sulfuric acid attack in London, which was orchestrated by her ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch and carried out by his accomplice Stefan Sylvestre.
The assault occurred shortly after a violent abusive relationship ended, during which Katie had also been raped and severely beaten by Daniel.
Stefan threw industrial-strength sulfuric acid straight into her face in a public street, causing severe third-degree burns. The corrosive substance caused extensive damage to her face, neck, chest, and arms, and blinded her in one eye.
Daniel was ultimately imprisoned for 16 years in 2009 while Stefan was given six years in 2009. He was released on license in 2018 and later recalled to prison in 2022 for license breaches.

During her visits to New Orleans Parish Prison, she revealed inmates told her to 'lay off the botox' while others claimed she burned herself cooking up methamphetamine before she told her heartbreaking story.
Katie has worked tirelessly within prisons in the wake of her two documentary series, including acting as a volunteer in prisons.
Speaking to Prison Radio in May, she said: 'My time in prisons as a volunteer has made me realise there is a huge misconception around the residents...
'Actually for some people, when they first come to prison it’s the first time they’ve been offered [support services], or been able to access [support services], or for a lot of a woman it’s the first time they’ve felt safe and felt protected...
'So I think also the outside world has a lot of work to do to get rid of some of the prejudgment and misconceptions about the population here.'
