The General Education department has issued an order promoting 220 government high school teachers to the posts of head teachers in government high schools or assistant education officers (AEO) in AEO offices.
Around 250 posts were learnt to be vacant though the new academic year began more than a month-and-a-half ago in June.
The absence of head teachers in high schools was alleged to be affecting not only curricular and co-curricular activities, but also administration of the institutions.
With Onam examinations only a couple of weeks away, schools and teachers’ organisations had been raising concerns over the delay in effecting head teacher promotion.
The promotions are subject to the teachers passing the Teachers’ Eligibility Test by August 31, 2028, as per a Supreme Court judgment in May this year.
