Dyson's supersonic has become one of the most recognisable hair dryers on the market, thanks to its fast drying performance and technology that is designed to combat frizz and boost shine. While Aldi's latest launch isn't trying to replace the premium styling tool, it does share one feature with the cult favourite: ionic technology.
Ionic technology is designed to help minimise static and tame flyaways while drying. Now, the supermarket has launched the Ambiano ionic hair dryer as part of its latest Specialbuys drop, offering shoppers a budget-friendly way to enjoy smoother-looking blow outs, without spending hundreds of pounds on a salon do.
The lightweight hair dryer also offers three heat and two speed settings to suit different hair types and styling routines. You can use the concentrator nozzle to help achieve a sleeker blowout, while the diffuser attachment can be used to dry curly hair. At just £14.99, it’s a seriously tempting option for anyone looking to upgrade their hair styling tools while keeping to a budget. You can find it in stores from Sunday, 26 July.

Best Dyson supersonic hair dryers
If you want to invest in a styling tool, we’re big fans of Dyson’s supersonic range. Here are our favourite hair dryers in the range.
The Dyson supersonic r is Dyson’s professional-grade hair dryer, featuring a lightweight design and ionic technology to help reduce static and create a smoother finish. When reviewed by Daisy Lester, she said in her Dyson supersonic r review that it was “30 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter than other supersonics in the roster. However, it boasts the same fast and powerful drying credentials as its predecessors.”
She added: “The curved design of the tool helped King (hair stylist) style and dry my roots, which is usually a hard area to reach. At home, I found it far easier to dry and smooth from the root to the ends because of the compact and curved nozzle end.”

When the supersonic travel was reviewed by beauty expert Lucy Smith, she wrote that it has a “strong motor [that] matches other brands’ premium full-size dryers, which is impressive, especially given its ultra-light design (weighing just over 300g, making it a smart choice for anyone with reduced strength or mobility).”
It took her hair from wet to dry in 15 minutes, and didn’t require any more styling tools, leaving her hair “smooth, soft and ready to go in no time.”
Why we love it
- Dual voltage for worldwide use (Dyson tools notoriously aren't)
- Motor matches the power of the Hershesons full-size great dryer (among others) for £45 less
- Weighs less than a can of Coke
- Controlled airflow effectively smooths flyaways
Take note
- A higher heat setting to help set styles could be helpful
The supersonic nural automatically adjusts temperature and airflow to reduce heat damge. After testing, Daisy wrote in her supersonic nural review: “The results were impressive. My hair looked shinier and felt far softer than it does after using other hair dryers. My hair continued to look fresh on days two and three, with the flyaway attachment helping to smarten up my look.”
