- Google is reportedly holding its Googlebook launch event in New York City on September 15.
- The event could finally reveal the official name of the Android-based operating system we’ve been calling Aluminium OS.
- Google is also expected to showcase hardware from its launch partners and give media hands-on access to the first Googlebooks.
After multiple leaks of Googlebook devices from the likes of Lenovo, Acer, and ASUS, we finally have a date for when Google is expected to officially announce its new laptop platform and reveal the name of the underlying software that has, until now, been known as Aluminium OS.
According to Chrome Unboxed, Google has invited media to an in-person Googlebook preview event in New York City on September 15, 2026. The event is expected to be a full hardware showcase, giving us our first official look at Google’s Android-based laptop platform and the devices that will launch with it.
Google first announced Googlebooks in May as a new category of premium laptops built on the Android technology stack. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are the first five hardware partners, with the first devices expected to arrive this fall.
Since then, leaks have given us a good look at what Googlebooks could bring to the table. Lenovo’s Googlebook 15 has surfaced in leaked renders, as has an ASUS model, with both showing Google’s distinctive Glowbar and hardware controls designed around Gemini.
Chrome Unboxed says Google’s September 15 event will include a keynote by Google leadership covering the new computing platform, its software architecture, and Google’s vision for bringing together ChromeOS-style web productivity with Android’s native codebase.
The publication also expects attendees to get hands-on time with Googlebooks from Google’s launch partners at dedicated demo stations. Media will reportedly be able to photograph, film, and benchmark the first wave of devices.
That’s particularly interesting given how little Google has officially revealed about the hardware so far. The company has said that Googlebooks will feature premium materials, come in different shapes and sizes, and share a distinctive Glowbar design.
More importantly, the September event could finally put a name to the software powering these machines.
Google has never officially called its new laptop operating system Aluminium OS. That’s the name we’ve been using based on leaks and code references, while Google has so far kept the official branding under wraps.
For now, though, mark September 15 on your calendar.
