Commuters at Auckland's Waitematā Train Station were evacuated this morning after a false fire alarm.

Fire and Emergency said it was called to the station, formerly known as Britomart, at about 8.15am on Wednesday, but soon confirmed it was a false alarm.

Auckland Transport said it evacuated the building and stopped trains from arriving as a precaution.

"There was no fire, and train services are back up and running," a spokesperson said.

"There have been delays and cancellations to some train services across all three lines this morning as a result, and there will be some further delays as services catch up to their regular schedules."

AT said it was asking customers to be patient and check the AT app and journey planner for the latest information.

"Scheduled buses are accepting rail tickets."
