According to Ukrinform, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center (CRC) reported this on Facebook.

“The Crimean Tatar Resource Center has learned of two illegal searches conducted at the homes of Crimean Tatars in the temporarily occupied Crimea,” the statement reads.

The first search took place on August 7 in the village of Uch-Dzhila (Suvorove) in the Perekop (Armiansk) district. The search was conducted at the Crimean Tatars’ home while the owners were away.

The second incident occurred on August 16 in the village of Or-Kapu (Perekop) at the home of Crimean Tatars. Following the search, the homeowner’s son was detained and interrogated from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. He was released after the interrogation.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center emphasized that “such actions by the occupying forces are intended to intimidate residents of the temporarily occupied Crimea and create an atmosphere of fear. Under the pretext of allegedly searching for ‘terrorists,’ the occupiers are checking phones, banking apps, and other applications on devices. They pay particular attention to correspondence and contacts related to the territory controlled by Ukraine. The discovery of such messages may serve as grounds for further persecution, detentions, and imprisonment.”

Residents of the temporarily occupied Crimea are urged to be cautious and not to store information on their phones that could be used by the occupiers for persecution.

As reported by Ukrinform, over the past six months, human rights activists have documented 128 unlawful arrests and 11 searches in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
