The Frog Club

Late-night dining on Chapel Street is no longer limited to kebab joints and pizza shops thanks to the arrival of the big and buzzing Frog Club in Windsor. Glam interiors nod to New York steakhouses and French brasseries, with similar influences seen on the menu served until midnight every night of the week.

Martini-friendly bites (hello, mussel escabeche crumpets) join splashy mains such as lobster frites and pure-bred Australian wagyu cote de boeuf. Prawn cocktail and Caesar salad are among the retro flourishes.

Owners James McBride and Marc Gurman have pedigree running South Yarra’s boujee day-to-night diner Gilson, while culinary director Angel Fernandez draws on stints at Armadale steakhouse Victor Churchill and Neil Perry’s now-closed Rosetta.

Occupying the historic site once home to cocktail bar Morris Jones, the old-timey jazz club vibe continues with a rotating line-up of DJs spinning everything from jazz to soul, disco, funk and Afro-beats.

Lively groups squeeze in around cushioned leather booths and white-clothed tables. Come summer, cocktail hour is sorted with a mezzanine bar and breezy courtyard.

Must order: Thrown martini – it’s one of few you’ll find in town.
