One person became trapped in a vehicle after a serious crash in a small Otago township.

Emergency services were notified of the two-vehicle crash near Letts Gully Rd in Springvale, north of Alexandra, at around 9am this morning.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager said two trucks from
Clyde and Alexandra and one support vehicle are in attendance.

Crews worked to free one person trapped in a vehicle, they said.

Crews were alerted to black ice at around the same time, but could not confirm if it was a factor in the collision.
