NATO responds to alleged report that Iran considered targeting US forces in Europe
NATO says it stands ready to defend all member states following a alleged report that Iran considered striking US military sites in Europe if President Donald Trump further escalates the war.
An alliance official said on Wednesday that NATO would confront any danger and take whatever action it considered necessary to protect its members.
"As demonstrated earlier this year when NATO air defences successfully intercepted ballistic missiles heading to Turkey from Iran on four separate occasions, our deterrence and defence posture is strong and effective," the official said.
The comments followed a Financial Times report examining possible Iranian responses to further US military escalation. Washington maintains forces and bases across Europe.
