In yet another embarrassment for the Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC), a student was seen issuing tickets to passengers on a bus operating on the Kalaburagi-Kalagi route on Tuesday raising serious questions about the enforcement of basic transport rules.

A video showing the student collecting fares and issuing tickets to passengers recorded by a commuter is now drawing attention.

The incident occurred on the bus that was on its way from the Kalaburagi City Bus Stand to Kalagi. The bus is attached to the Kalagi depot.

The student was performing the duties of a conductor in the absence of conductor Siddu Biradar, according to reports.

The episode has raised the question that how a student can be allowed to handle passenger fares and issue official tickets on a public transport bus.

Collecting fares and issuing tickets are duties entrusted to authorised conductors. Allowing an unauthorised person to perform such responsibilities can amount to a serious breach of procedures and raises concerns over accountability within the corporation.

Passengers have demanded that KKRTC officials investigate the incident and establish who permitted the student to perform the conductor’s duties. They have also sought action against those responsible for violation of rules.

The incident comes nearly a month after a video of a KKRTC driver driving a bus using light from a mobile phone torch went viral on social media triggering criticism of the corporation’s functioning.

The latest incident has once again put the spotlight on adherence to safety and operational procedures on KKRTC buses.

Passengers have called upon the authorities to take stringent measures to prevent such lapses and ensure that prescribed transport and safety regulations are strictly followed.
