The Marvel Cinematic Universe's next major event begins this December with the release of Avengers: Doomsday, which will be followed by Secret Wars next year. While trailers have only hinted at what these massive films will have in store for the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and more, we know they are heavily inspired by the 2015 Secret Wars event comic. Now Marvel is returning to that era with a new limited series in the lead-up to Doomsday.
Marvel has announced a five-issue collection of one-shots called Incursions. These revisit the Time Runs Out storyline, which immediately preceded Secret Wars and depicted universes across the Marvel multiverse colliding in catastrophic events known as incursions. Each incursion pitted two universes against each other, culminating in a final confrontation between Marvel's Primary Universe and the Ultimate Universe.
The first issue of this limited series, X-Men: Incursions #1, will be released on Nov. 18, just one month before Doomsday hits theaters. It will be written by Alex Paknadel and illustrated by Jim Towe. The official description of the issue teases a battle between two of the most iconic X-Men alternate universes ever:
Witness what happens when the universe of the mutant-ascendent House of M intersects with that of the Days of Future Past! In eight hours, only one can survive, or both will collide and be utterly annihilated! This devastating choice is left in the hands of Kate Pryde!
This issue will also have some stunning variant covers to collect. These include one from Secret Wars artist Esad Ribić and a promotional cover for the Incursions series by Ultimates artist Bryan Hitch.
The series will continue with Spider-Man: Incursions #1 and Fantastic Four: Incursions #1 in December, followed by X-Men '92: Incursions #1 and Avengers: Incursions #1 in January of next year. Marvel teases that the one-shots will span classic comic eras, alternate timelines, and beloved media adaptations. The Hitch variant cover even includes a version of Rogue from the animated series X-Men: Evolution, so anything is on the table.
