Montana Brown has shared a post about her decision to feed her children whole nuts from the age of eight months – going against NHS guidelines.
The former Love Islander, 30, said she wanted to get Jude, three, and Miley, 20 months used to eating nuts to avoid them developing a severe allergy to them but acknowledged her decision is 'controversial' because they are a 'choking hazard.'
According to NHS guidance: 'Whole nuts should not be given to children under 5 years old, because they can choke on them. They should be crushed or ground and added to food or in a butter form.
Montana has sparked criticism before due to her 'tone deaf rage-baiting' posts on school desserts, sugar and children's food pouches.
She wrote: 'I know giving children nuts is seen as a choking hazard and controversial. However, having grown up with a severe allergy… it’s been important for me to introduce early.
Montana Brown has revealed her 'controversial' decision to give her children whole nuts from the age of eight months in her latest 'rage-baiting' post as she defies NHS guidance
'I also am of the opinion that if we don’t teach our kids to chew things properly especially when they’re small then I’m not sure it’s helpful to avoid giving them until they’re older?
I have always made of point of sitting them down when eating nuts and seeds at the table, no distractions and explaining that it’s even more important to chew your food when we’re eating nuts, seeds or anything small like blueberries etc.'
Revealing she used to blend them she acknowledged that she is choosing to go against the NHS advice.
She continued: 'I used to blend the nuts up and put them in yoghurt, and when they hit 8/9 months I introduced whole nuts (but please get professional advice as the NHS guidance is different on this) Their nutritional value is out of this world, and so good as a snack throughout the day so this works for us and our family.'
Montana also shared that she prioritises fibre in her children's diet, as she added: '90% of kids don’t hit their recommended fibre intake which is wild as I thought fruit and veg would suffice. But this is another reason why nuts and seeds are an easy way to get that up.
'They’re also so many lovely nut butters available too if you don’t want to give them whole. My kids are also obsessed with dried fruit like prunes and apricots.'
The star also prioritises 'wild caught fish and grass fed meat', pickles, olives and broccoli sprouts in her children's diet.
It isn't the first time Montana has sparked controversy after she previously blasted schools for serving desserts with school lunches.
The star explained she has been giving her children whole nuts since they were eight months old, despite it being a 'choking hazard'
The star slammed schools for 'serving sticky toffee pudding every day' and alleged children were also given biscuits at break time, thus normalising the exposure to 'addictive' sugar and ultra processed foods.
Much like her previous videos about parenting, the reaction was furious with followers claiming she is 'demonising' sugar while many others flagged that for children living in poverty the food could be their 'only hot meal of the day'.
Montana has also sparked backlash from fans for sharing a 'patronising' post complaining parents 'shouldn't buy ready-made pouches' for their children.
In a post on TikTok, Montana said she was 'sickened' that parents were lured into the idea of buying 'kid-friendly' products such as branded snacks and pouches of food, insisting that most of them are 'full of c**p'.
The star continued that it's become 'hard' to avoid ultra-processed food when it comes to making meals for her family, and urged other parents to just give their children 'a piece of carrot or cucumber instead'.
Her post sparked a sea of complaints, with some accusing Montana of 'guilt-tripping parents', who may rely on pouches to feed their children while juggling their busy work schedules.
