Madurai City Police have invited applications from those interested in setting up temporary cracker shops in the city ahead of Deepavali.
A statement said the filled-in AE-5 applications under the Tamil Nadu Explosives Act, 2008, should be submitted by September 20. The applications downloaded from the website should be accompanied by a ₹10 judicial stamp and a passport-size photograph of the applicant. Four copies of the photograph should also be attached separately.
The map of the proposed shop, with two mandatory exits, along with the full address of the shop should be submitted. The map should mark the 50-metre area surrounding the shop.
A receipt for property tax paid up to September 30 should be submitted if the shop building is owned by the applicant.
If the shop is in a rented building, the property tax receipt, consent letter from the building owner and the rent agreement attested by a notary public should be produced.
If the shop is located in a building owned by the Corporation, Public Works Department, or another government department, a no-objection certificate from the official concerned should be produced, the statement said.
The D&O licence issued by the Madurai Corporation for 2026-27, a sworn affidavit attested by a notary public, photographs showing both exits of the shop, a copy of the ration card or Aadhaar card of the applicant and a non-refundable deposit of ₹1,000 should also be submitted. Three copies of all the documents should be attached with the original application.
The licence would be granted only if the police were satisfied with the field inspection and field enquiry.
No licence would be given for roadside cracker shops as per the stipulations of the Explosives Act and Pollution Control Board rules, the statement added.
