Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday (August 20, 2026) attacked the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over alleged deterioration in law and order, saying he would not let Bihar become a "police State".

Mr. Yadav, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, said Bihar's law and order had "completely collapsed", while accusing the government of failing to control "rising police brutality".

The RJD national working president met the family members of 19-year-old Roshan Yadav, who was allegedly found dead in Madhubani Jail on August 10, 2026.

According to the jail administration, Roshan Yadav allegedly ended his life inside the jail on August 10. However, the RJD leader questioned the claim of the police and alleged that he may have been killed, pointing to several marks found on his body.

"The 19-year-old had been lodged in the jail since May 27 in connection with an Arms Act case registered against him. Later, he was released but rearrested soon after. The boy was brutally beaten and subjected to electric shocks. This is an inhuman act by the police. We will not allow Bihar to become a police State," the RJD leader said.

Mr. Yadav said he would also meet the family members of another person killed recently in Vaishali, and alleged that no concrete action has been taken by the police.

"The State government has miserably failed in checking the deteriorating law and order situation in the State. Those at the helm of affairs in the State are maintaining a stoic silence on rising crimes," Mr. Yadav said.

When asked about his party's 'Lok Bhavan March' in the State capital on Wednesday (August 19, 2026), the RJD leader said he would continue to protest against the "incompetent" government and the Chief Minister. "I will continue to protest against the incompetent government and the CM," he said.

Mr. Yadav on Wednesday led an RJD march to Lok Bhavan over the recent police action in Siwan on July 25 on students who demonstrated against the NEET paper leak.
