Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor has pitched a new Star Wars story idea for his legendary Jedi.
McGregor was last seen in the robes of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the character's so-so Disney+ spinoff series, which saw him reprise the role he portrayed throughout the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Since then, McGregor has repeatedly expressed interest in further Obi-Wan Kenobi stories, and has now revealed that he's personally pitched Lucasfilm president and chief creative officer Dave Filoni on a fresh post-Episode 3 idea.
Speaking to Variety, McGregor said he'd suggested a new tale where Kenobi goes hunting for Yoda, who we know goes into hiding post-Clone Wars and eventually settles down in his swamp on Dagobah. Exactly what more we need to know about all this, I'm not sure, but McGregor sounds pretty excited.
"I said there's got to be something," McGregor explained of his "very casual" chat with Filoni. "Because Yoda's somewhere else. After the end of Episode 3, when we all go to the four or five corners of the galaxy — or however many corners it's got! — I won't have been in touch with him. But he's out there. So I think there could be a story there where I'm trying to reach out to him."
Viewers last saw McGregor's Kenobi settling down in a cave on Tatooine, ready for a catchup with the Force ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn and an eventual handover to Alec Guinness. Perhaps Liam Neeson could also be tempted back for some swamp time with Yoda before then? Alas, there's no suggestion that Filoni will take up McGregor's suggestion and move it forward.
McGregor has, at least, accepted the fact that it's very unlikely he will be given a romance with Hera, the character from Star Wars Rebels and Ahsoka played in live-action by his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
"I got very excited when Mary started working on Ahsoka," McGregor said. "I thought, maybe this is the big love story — Obi-Wan and Hera." Subsequently, however, McGregor said he had acknowledged that the characters were now "in different time frames."
Will McGregor ever get his wish to play Obi-Wan Kenobi again? While anything's possible, Disney appears to have notably scaled back its production of live-action Disney+ Star Wars series. Following the release of Ahsoka Season 2, no further projects are currently known to be in production.
