The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council witnessed disruptions caused by members of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Thursday.
Chairman Moshenu Raju rejected an adjournment motion moved by YSRCP members Varudu Kalyani, Rajagolla Ramesh Yadav and others seeking a discussion on alleged irregularities in the DSC-2025 recruitment under sports quota, and proceeded with the Question Hour.
Godavari Pushkaralu
During Question Hour, responding to a question raised by Somu Veerraju, Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana said the Finance Department had allocated ₹150 crore to the department for the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu. He said the Chief Minister had already written to the Centre seeking funds for the mega event. In addition, ₹1,144 crore had been allocated to the municipalities in the areas where the Pushkaralu would be held through schemes such as UIDF and UCF, he informed.
Responding to questions on the PM Vidyalaxmi scheme, HRD Minister N. Lokesh said it was a Central Sector Scheme implemented by the Union Government and that the State Government did not have the relevant information.
Funds for uplift of Kapus
Minister Savitha said a chairman had been appointed for the Kapu Corporation and that funds were being allocated annually for the development of the community. She said ₹4,646.99 crore had been allocated in 2024-25, of which ₹4,440 crore was spent, benefiting 9,55,144 people.
In 2025-26, a sum of ₹4,360.28 crore was allocated and spent, benefiting 20,63,907 people. For 2026-27, funds to the tune of ₹5,012.10 crore were allocated, of which ₹2,485.19 crore had been spent so far, benefiting 21,37,121 people.
During Question Hour, the YSRCP members protested demanding a discussion on alleged irregularities in DSC. They surrounded the podium and raised slogans, following which the Chairman adjourned the proceedings for a short while.
New MLC takes oath
After the House resumed, the Chairman declared the remaining questions as deemed answered. Subsequently, the newly elected MLC Ramadevi took oath.
When the House took up various Bills for approval, the YSRCP members intensified their protest, prompting the Chairman to adjourn the House briefly once again.
After the proceedings resumed, the YSRCP members continued their protest, amidst which the Council passed several Bills. Later, Mr. Moshenu Raju adjourned the House sine die.
