- Bestgarden sofa set overall
- Why we love it- Sits up to eight people comfortably
- Made from premium looking acacia wood
-
Stools are lightweight
-
Take note- Pricey
- Cushions are spot clean only
Furniture company Swyft may be best known for selling an attractive range of easy-to-assemble indoor sofas, but its outdoor dining collection offers serious wow-factor. This includes the garden dining set 02, which is the best garden sofa set I tested thanks to its comfortable cushions and high-quality, weather resistant materials.
Swyft’s garden dining set is made from acacia wood and comprises a corner sofa, dining table and two stools. These all come topped with stylish, green weather-proof cushions. I really like the corner configuration, which compactly fits up to eight people. As the cushions are thick, I found them comfy to sit on without feeling like I was sinking in. The stools are also light enough to easily move around.
The set comes pre-oiled, which gives the acacia wood a premium finish. Every time it rained, the water seemed to bounce off the surface and was easy to wipe dry. As the covers are dark green, I think it makes it easier to disguise any wear and tear marks over time compared with if they were white or cream. When not in use, you can store it under its tailor-made the garden dining set 02 cover, for an extra £99.
Once placing the order, delivery to my home was swift as the brand name suggests. Choosing the white glove delivery option made set up easy, as upon arrival the team of two were able to assemble the furniture in less than 30 minutes. This costs an extra £49 on top of the delivery charge. For the purposes of this test, I paid close attention to assembly instructions, which seemed straightforward enough as everything was clearly labelled. I was relieved that the delivery team took the packaging away for recycling too, as the set is large and it arrived in a few boxes.

Bestbudget garden sofa set
- Why we love it- Its steel frame and white cushions look stunning
- The sofas are very comfortable
-
The polished-stone tops appear more durable than glass
-
Take note- The frame edges could be smoother
- Cushion covers are spot clean only
- The tables were fiddly to assemble
With space for five to gather, Habitat’s Simone garden sofa set includes one three-seater sofa, two side chairs and a nest of two tables. It’s best budget garden sofa set I tested, with cushions that feel very plump and cloud-like. This makes a nice change from standard garden cushions that I’ve discovered can be quite firm.
The set features a striking black steel frame with rattan woven chair arms, to soften the look, and cream cushions that provide a bold contrast. The smaller table slides underneath the large one, which makes storage easy and frees up patio space when needed. The tables also have eye-catching polished-stone tops that not only adds to their premium-looking finish, but is a more durable option than glass.
Fortunately, the sofa and two chairs in this set arrived fully assembled, which meant I only had to put the two tables together. Fixing the black frames together to secure the table tops in place was a little fiddlier than I was expecting as the screws were tight, but the results were worth it.
The cushion covers aren’t removable, so any potential spills or stains will need to be spot cleaned only. However the covers are water resistant to protect against light showers.

Bestgarden swing sofa
- Why we love it- Multifunctional design converts from a swing to day bed
- Steel frame is rust, UV and water resistant
-
Great value price
-
Take note- You need an entirely flat surface for it to swing effectively
- Fiddly to put together
The Range’s riviera 3 seater combo swingbed is an option that both kids and adults will enjoy, with a three-seater chair that converts from a swing sofa seat to a daybed. The garden swing comes with grey cover cushions and a black steel frame and is rust, UV and water resistant to ensure it can withstand the elements.
While delivery was quick and easy, putting this swing together was a little more complicated than I expected. It took me a good hour to get the main frame in place and then another 30 minutes to work out exactly how to attach the canopy above.
It’s comfortable nonetheless, and both my kids enjoyed swinging on it with me once construction was completed. I found that it does need to be put on a flat surface – as opposed to grass – to swing properly, as otherwise the seat doesn’t swing in a straight line and it squeaks. I also like the fact that, with a simple unlock of the bar on its base, it can be enjoyed in both a seating position or a flat daybed configuration. It’s definitely somewhere I’ll be enjoying a little nap on this season.

Bestmetal garden sofa set
- Why we love it- Rust and UV resistant to withstand the elements
- Comfortable
-
Attractive colourway
-
Take note- White cushions may show up stains over time
- Cushions have removable covers, but are wipe clean only
- Took longer than expected to assemble
This Wayfair four-seater set comes with one two-seater sofa, two armchairs and a tempered glass top table. It has a powder-coated aluminium frame that gives it a strong core and comes complete with a muted, champagne gold finish. I think this colourway looks particularly good against the grass and flowers when the sun is shining, and the pale metal won’t attract the heat and get too hot like some grey and black finishes can.
Mid-construction, I wasn’t feeling that positive about this set as it has a number of fiddly parts to assemble. But as soon as I had built it, all was forgotten as I was so pleased with how effortlessly good it looked on the lawn next to the flowers.
The medium-firm cushions feel nice to sit on and fit neatly on the frame without sliding off, as they have straps to secure them in place. The covers are pristine white, so perhaps not the easiest colour to maintain box fresh, but they are removable and machine washable for easy cleaning.

Beststeel garden sofa set
- Why we love it- Modular brown and white design looks stylish
- Feels robust and well made
-
Beautiful sintered stone tabletop
-
Take note- Cushions are comfy but firm
- White cushion colour can be more prone to marks than darker colours
It’s not every day you find garden sofas as stylish as this Solace+Co Kyla set, qhich looks and feels as good inside the house as it does outside. Beautifully finished with sophisticated brown powered-coated steel frames, the sofas come with PE rattan detailing and white padded seat cushions that are both supportive and comfy.
I really love the brown finish of the steel frames, which complement my garden beautifully and provide a timeless finish. The sofa frames have a subtle curved rattan back that keep the cushions securely in place. I think it’s a design that not only feels supportive, but is uniquely eye-catching in style too.
It comes with two armchairs and one generously sized two-seater sofa, and I was able to sit back on the padded cushions and relax into the design. The cushions are on the firmer side, and they will need a little more care than darker colours to keep looking pristine, but they are removable for cleaning.
I think this set is a great choice for gardens, patios, balconies and conservatories. It feels good quality and comes at a reasonable price too, especially considering the coffee table-top is made from sintered stone.

Bestcompact garden sofa
- Why we love it- Made from UV-resistant rattan designed for durability
- Flexible design can seat up to five
-
The retractable tables are convenient
-
Take note- While it can seat five, it’s best for two
Wilko’s malay deluxe New Hampshire design is modular garden sofa set that comes with a three-seater sofa, two ottoman stools, two small tables that slide in and out of the arms and a small freestanding table. The best compact garden sofa I tested, the rattan set comes complete with grey cushions and is designed for two people to share, with space on each side to put your feet up and rest your drink on the retracting tables. Another space saving feature I liked was how the two ottomans slide under the sofa frame for neat storage when not in use.
The design can also be adapted for when you have a larger gathering, with space for up to five people to perch.
I found this set quick to assemble as the instructions are easy to follow and the set doesn’t include too many pieces. The trickiest part was attaching the small tables to the frame and making sure they slid out smoothly, but overall construction was swift.
The grey cushions and rattan frame are subtle in style and neutral enough to blend in effortlessly with existing garden furniture – be it wooden or metal designs. I enjoyed kicking back on the supportive cushions and basking in the sun, even if April showers meant this was short lived.

Bestrattan garden sofa
- Why we love it- Seats up to nine people
- Cushions feel comfy and relaxing
-
The table and corner configuration make it good for large gatherings
-
Take note- You need patience to put it together
- Table is better for appetisers than dining
A generous corner sofa option, Wilko’s New Jersey design is the best rattan garden sofa set I tested. Designed to seat up to nine people, it comes with a corner sofa, three-seater sofa, table and three stools with grey cushions that sit strategically over the frame to provide a plush seating area. A matching glass-topped table completes the look.
The synthetic rattan finish used here is rust, UV and water resistant, which bodes well for the longevity of this set for lasting longer than a season.
Constructing this set took time as there are numerous pieces to contend with. But once I had got into the swing of things and worked out how to smoothly turn the fixings into place, I found it came together nicely.
The grey design is sober in style and so while it’s not exactly adventurous in design, it makes for a classic, timeless centrepiece for a patio or decking. The table looks stylish, but at 120cm long, it’s on the small side for such a large gathering to dine – placing drinks and appetisers here for everyone to nibble on rather than putting out place mats is a more viable option.

Bestoccasional garden sofa
- Why we love it- It adds a pop of colour to the garden
- Attractive and comfy four-piece design
-
Made from durable powder-coated steel
-
Take note- Its frame isn’t the comfiest
- Table top is a bit tricky to clean
A refreshing change from your standard black, grey or cream garden sofa, this outdoor bistro set from Dobbies is finished in a bold red colourway that makes a statement. Its pop of colour instantly enhanced my garden and looked good placed on the grass and next to the flowerbeds.
The set comprises a two-seater sofa, two armchairs and compact coffee table with tempered glass top. Assembly didn’t take long as there are few parts to piece together. Once I’d taken everything out of the box, it was a simple matter of screwing the legs onto the main frames of the seats and securing the table base.
I didn’t think the seats were going to be as comfortable as they were, as each bar in the frame is quite wide. But with the luxuriously thick red cushions placed on top, I found the chairs surprisingly relaxing and supportive. The table top is made up of three parts, and I think it would be easier to clean if it was one complete sheet, but I still managed to buff it clean whenever my nearby tree decided to shed blossom leaves all over it.
