Apple TV has the long-awaited Ted Lasso season 4 airing now and it’s proven a huge hit, but there are three more big new releases coming very soon.
#1: Dark Matter
Sci-fi fans have plenty of excellent shows to enjoy on Apple TV. And while Severance and Pluribus are common household titles, one fan-favorite series you may have missed is Dark Matter.
The show is based on Blake Crouch’s bestselling novel and stars Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly.
Dark Matter season 2 premieres ** Friday, August 28** with its first episode, followed by weekly releases through October 30.
Here’s Apple’s series summary:
Hailed as one of the best sci-fi novels and celebrating the 10th anniversary of its release this year, “Dark Matter” is a story about the road not taken. In season one, the series followed Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived.
#2: Mayday
Apple TV has a packed lineup of new movies coming this fall, most of which will debut first on streaming with no theatrical run.
The first film coming is Mayday, an action-buddy comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh in a twist on the classic spy thriller.
Mayday premieres ** Friday, September 4** exclusively on Apple TV.
Here’s Apple’s plot summary and the trailer:
Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh team up in “Mayday,” a genre-bending, action-packed buddy comedy that flips the spy thriller on its head. When hotshot U.S. Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly (Reynolds) is sent on a top-secret mission into Russian territory at the height of the Cold War, the operation implodes, leaving him stranded behind enemy lines. Discovered by Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a gruff ex-KGB agent with a penchant for American culture, Troy thinks he’s toast — but could an unlikely alliance between the two lead to Troy’s rescue and a bond neither saw coming?
#3: Slow Horses
One of Apple’s most acclaimed series, Slow Horses, is back soon.
In the streaming era, viewers often have to wait several years for new seasons of a favorite show. But Slow Horses has consistently returned every year, offering highly entertaining espionage exploits with Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb and crew.
Slow Horses season 6 premieres ** Wednesday, September 16** with its first episode, followed by weekly releases through October 21.
Here’s Apple’s series summary:
This darkly funny espionage drama follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 due to their career-ending mistakes. Led by their brilliant but irascible leader, the notorious Jackson Lamb (Academy Award winner Sir Gary Oldman), they navigate the espionage world’s smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces.
Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month, or you can get it discounted through the Apple One bundle.
