More cities are getting a slice of California Pizza Kitchen as the chain takes its pizzas beyond traditional restaurants, with plans to roll out 1,000 automated kiosks across the U.S. over the next three years.
The Costa Mesa-based chain is partnering with T-ROC Global, a retail technology company, to place the kiosks in busy locations where opening a full-sized restaurant may not make sense. This includes spots such as airports, universities, hospitals, hotels, offices, residential communities, EV charging stations and sports venues, the companies said in a press release Friday.
The rollout will begin in about 30 major U.S. markets, with at least 20 kiosks in each. The companies did not name the specific markets in Friday’s announcement.
The touch-screen kiosks can make 7-inch pizzas in about 90 seconds using TurboChef equipment and “data-driven intelligence,” according to the release. The machines are also planned to offer other CPK favorites such as Kung Pao, Bolognese Spaghetti, Mac ‘N’ Cheese and Butter Cake.
CPK, which operates 104 company-owned restaurants and 32 franchise locations, already has pizza kiosks at airports including Boston Logan, Atlanta, Dallas Love Field and Dayton. The T-ROC deal plans to take that strategy nationwide, with 15 more machines planned for several universities by the end of the year.
“Consumers increasingly expect their favorite brands to meet them where they are, and technology is making that possible in entirely new ways. By combining CPK’s brand, food and loyal following with T-ROC’s nationwide infrastructure and technology capabilities, we have an opportunity to build a new national distribution channel at a meaningful scale,” Brett Beveridge, the CEO and founder of T-ROC Global, said in a statement.
The move could help CPK reach more customers and boost brand awareness as the chain works to reverse a years-long decline in restaurant locations. CPK had 167 locations in 2021 but fell to 121 at the start of 2026 after 10 net closures in 2025, according to its franchise disclosure documents, Retail Dive reports.
Franchising has been part of CPK’s growth strategy for years. The chain launched a domestic franchising program in 2021, began pursuing refranchising in 2023 and signed a multi-unit deal in Nevada last year, but those efforts have yet to significantly expand its footprint.
