The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has pledged ₹36.6 crore to procure a Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machine for radiotherapy for cancer treatment in the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kakinada city.

Funded by the Indian Red Cross, an exclusive cancer block is being built with ₹7 crore in Kakinada under the aegis of the GGH-Kakinada.

In an official release, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has stated: “The ONGC has promised to give ₹36.6 crore for a LINAC machine under Corporate Social Responsibility for cancer treatment for patients from the Godavari and Visakhapatnam regions”.

A mobile cancer screening vehicle worth ₹3.5 crore would also be launched soon by the GGH-Kakinada.

AERB’s approval

The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has permitted the installation of a radiotherapy bunker in the cancer block, in which the LINAC machine will be installed for radiotherapy treatment for cancer patients, claimed Mr. Kalyan.

Mr. Kalyan has thanked ONGC Chairman Arun Kumar Singh for the support for the infrastructure required for cancer treatment in Kakinada city.
