Liam Napier in South Africa

Anton Segner has been withdrawn from the All Blacks first Greatest Rivalry test against the Springboks at Ellis Park.

The Blues loose forward injured his ankle, which has been assessed as acute inflammatory arthritis, and has been replaced on the bench by Simon Parker.

At this stage, Segner’s return to play is yet to be determined, which could be a significant blow given his superb form on this tour.

Segner’s setback continues a string of injuries for the All Blacks in South Africa after hooker George Bell, centre Billy Proctor and wing Caleb Clarke were forced to return home.

Halfback Cortez Ratima is also nursing a knee ligament blow, with the All Blacks calling over Noah Hotham as cover.

Parker’s inclusion changes the composition of the All Blacks bench, with Segner and Peter Lakai originally selected to attack the breakdown and continue the quest for speed.

Parker, surprisingly elevated over Wallace Sititi, is more noted for his size, height and defensive strengths.
