Syria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement condemning "in the strongest terms" an Israeli attack on a "civilian vehicle" west of Damascus.

Syrian media reported earlier that one person was wounded in an Israeli attack on a car in Beit Jinn. The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted a person who posed "an immediate threat" to its forces operating in the area.

The ministry denounced the attack as a a “flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity” of Syria and a “blatant breach of international law”, warning that it will further fuel tensions in the region and undermine civilian security.

The attack came days after the Israeli military launched eight air strikes targeting the Abu al-Duhur airbase in northwestern Syria’s Idlib province. Israeli defence minister Israel Katz claimed on Saturday that the attack was motivated by "clear intelligence" regarding Turkish plans to deploy troops there.
